Making my Zenfolio site

April 27, 2013  •  Leave a Comment

When starting with Zenfolio a couple of months back I had to do a lot of thinking. I wanted to make sure my photos were organised in a way that I could easily manage them. After some experimenting with Groups, Collections and Albums, I decided on a way forward. I've created a structure like this:

Country (group)

Town/City (group)

Place/date (albums)

One problem with this is that I've got potentially a number of layers, sub-folders needing clicks to navigate through. But I didn't have much choice because otherwise, if I tried to keep the structure flatter the folder names would've looked ugly (long). I am still trying to stick to a maximum of three levels though.

I'm uploading photos, not all of them, a selection. However, even these that I'm selecting are a lot and I don't think people will be interested in looking through all of them. To solve this I'm going to create Collections and pick the best photos for them. This will mean that I can have Collections based upon themes.

That's the plan anyway! Let's see how it goes, there's always so many things to do. Also, here on this blog I hope to put some more articles here too. I'd love to explain some of what I've learnt about photography. Watch this space for more :-)
